Board of School Superintendents (BOSS) announces

immediate openings in every state for experienced and dynamic leaders to facilitate one or more Superintendent peer cohorts and provide one to one coaching to active public school superintendents.  Chairs will be selected by BOSS executives through a competitive process based on experience, skills, talents and personal leadership attributes.

This is an incredible opportunity to utilize fully your advanced leadership acumen and passion for improving public education. You will have the opportunity to relate your lifetime of success in public schools and assist newly hired and experienced school superintendents in navigating their unique leadership challenges in public schools. These challenges include: school board relations, improving student achievement, leading school improvement efforts, managing complex organization development needs and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Chair is responsible for building and leading a cohort of 12 active school superintendents through a BOSS certified professional learning process. Cohort leadership includes facilitation of face to face meetings, monthly telephone conferencing, individual leadership assessments and development of personal learning plans, individual mentoring sessions and coordination of all activities with national headquarters. Chairs will also be expected to coordinate and cooperate with state associations on matters of tuition cost reimbursement, continuing education credits, corporate sponsorship/donations and related matters. Chairs will fulfill specified duties required by BOSS national headquarters in order for superintendents to meet all requirements for certification by completion of the program.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: The successful candidate will possess prior successful public school leadership experience and evidence of skills related to:

  1. Improving learning outcomes for students,
  2. Group facilitation skills,
  3. Ability to listen, probe, clarify and generate insights into a myriad of important school leadership issues,
  4. Strong self-confidence and personal presence when dealing with school executives,
  5. Impeccable integrity,
  6. Entrepreneurial spirit and
  7. Strong personal work ethic.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have extensive experience and success as a school superintendent. While the overall quality of a candidate’s profile will be the determining factor in the selection process, the finalist must have the following requisite qualifications:

Prior successful experience as a public school superintendent, meets current Superintendent qualifications or licensure in the state serving as Chair of BOSS, able to dedicate time required to lead all aspects of superintendent cohort as per BOSS certification requirements, education at Masters degree or beyond in public school administration or related field.
